The greatest wealth is health!

Healthier Holiday Eating Goals

Thankfully, it’s nearing the end of 2020 and a great time to start thinking of new beginnings for this upcoming year, don't you think? One very important lesson we’ve all learned over the last 10 months is how valuable our state of health is. When discussing COVID-19 the other day with Mary, our functional nurse practitioner, she said, "it's not the disease, it's the terrain". It means this: if your body is sick, you are less likely to do well with an illness you contract whether it's COVID-19 or anything else. Mary isn't saying that if you're super healthy you'll never get sick. Her point, however, is if you can decrease chronic disease and imbalance, you're more likely to handle any type of illness better.

I'm sure there are a lot of you who are doing really great things for your health- and that's amazing! If you know there's a couple of things you need to work on but aren't sure where to start, our office has staff that can help you feel and function better. 💪

Here are some very basic things you can do to make a huge positive impact on your health.

1. Eating healthier reduces inflammation. Every time.

  • Start cooking most of your meals at home, from scratch ingredients

  • Cut out sugary drinks and foods. If you have a sweet tooth, try making desserts using safe sugar-substitutes like Swerve (found in all stores!). See this handout.

  • Eat more veggies at each meal

2. Get an in depth understanding of your health with lab work & assessments from a functional medicine perspective. We look at:

  • Blood sugar metabolism & balance

  • Food intolerances (you may have them and not know it which can cause any type of symptom)

  • Levels of inflammation by checking markers

  • Hormone balance using a thorough set of labs for men and women

  • Early detection of problems involving the heart, blood vessels, central nervous system and peripheral nervous system

  • Metabolic efficiency testing

  • Posture analysis and correction

  • Body composition analysis to understand fat to muscle ratio

3. Make a health-improvement goal and plan to DO IT.
Easier said than done, but you can't hope to make change without actually making changes. To be as healthy as you want to be, you will need to take time to work on yourself...whatever it is :)
